Limited, but good-all-round reports again this year on this funky Japanese in Soho – part of the Bone Daddies stable – which serves an eclectic mix of dishes inspired by ‘Yoshoku’ food (the Western-influenced cooking style popular in Japan): well-known examples include Mentaiko mac and cheese, prawn toast and everyone’s favourite pudding: Kinako French toast with soft-serve ice cream.

“Some amazingly tasty dishes” – of a funky, western-influenced Japanese genre – again earn high ratings for this “really delightful” Soho outfit (the brainchild of Australian chef, Ross Shonhan, creator of the Bone Daddies group). “It may not quite count as cheap ’n’ cheerful, but the tasting menu is a bargain for £30” – in fact, it may be a better choice than going off-piste, where “the bills rack up quickly”. Top Tip – “deliciously indulgent green tea ice cream dessert”.

“Perfect Westernised Japanese food” – Bone Daddies’s Soho sister has a “hip atmosphere and great staff”, and provides an object lesson in “how to do fusion cuisine”. “The tasting menu is a bargain at £30 as it includes all their signature dishes”. Top Tip: “Kinako French toast with Matcha is a delight”“how can bread and ice cream be this good?”.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
