* Based on a three course dinner, half a bottle of wine, coffee, cover charge, service and VAT.

Approaching its 300th birthday, this Mayfair pub is more stylish than most in the West End, partly due to its history of celebrity ownership (it was part of Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s divorce settlement, with Ritchie getting The Queen of Pop’s share when they split). Foodwise, it’s also been a decent bet in recent times (although it did receive one ‘off’ report from a former fan this year).

“Great pies and good crunchy vegetables” combine with “romantic booths” at this “lovely pub” in Mayfair. It’s “over 300 years old” and has more recent history, under the former ownership of Madonna’s ex, film director Guy Ritchie.

Once owned by film director Guy Ritchie, Madonna’s ex, this atmospheric 18th-century Mayfair boozer has dropped out of sight a little since he sold up, but it’s a good all-rounder in this pricey ’hood.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
