True to the Cubitt Group’s “comfortable” standards, this is a “lovely and above-average gastropub not far from Marble Arch” (with eight boutique hotel bedrooms). Foodwise, it’s a “reliable” bet, with the group’s menu ranging from small plates to poshed-up gastropub staples via oysters and steaks.

Promising ‘layers of country pub’ on its website, this popular pub/restaurant (also with rooms) is tucked away in a Marylebone townhouse. Part of the posh Cubitt House group, it offers “decent upmarket pub fare with reliable cooking and service” in a buzzing setting.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Lovely and above average gastro pub close to Marble Arch. Very nice steak Tartare. Most dishes more ordinary than exceptional but a reliable haunt. "

"The main courses were standard pub fare done well. In a large group we hadn't noticed that none came with vegetables and the waiters didn't suggest it. the nibbles section a bit more exciting."
