* Based on a three course dinner, half a bottle of wine, coffee, cover charge, service and VAT.

Navigate through the pan-Asian section of Russian restaurateur Arkady Novikov’s ultra-luxe Mayfair scene, and you find an elegant if slightly incongruous classic Italian dining room at the rear. Key themes that emerge in survey feedback: it’s notably “overpriced”; the food’s not bad; and for a business encounter, it’s worth considering.

Wreathed in the über-Eurotrashy environs and telephone-number prices of Russian restaurateur Arkady Novikov’s well-known, Mayfair glamour-magnet, it’s hard to form a totally balanced judgement on its Italian dining room. It’s fabulously “overpriced” of course, but most diners do actually feel the “classic Italian cuisine” is “proper” and “delicious”.

A few fans – all of whom seem to have put ‘Investment Banker’ in the occupation field of the survey form – feel the food is “first rate” in the Italian section of Russian restaurateur Arkady Novikov’s Eurotrashy Mayfair hang-out. Those not blessed with a career in the money factories are more apt to feel the experience is “appalling all-round”, with particular antipathy to the Sputnik-high prices – “bare-faced robbery!”.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
