Kurt Zdesar - who has been involved with such illustrious names as Nobu, Hakkasan, Chotto Matte and Ping Pong - and Stefano Stecca (most recently Exec Chef at Toto's) are coming together in October to open Fucina (Italian for 'forge'), an organic, traditional Italian restaurant in Marylebone. A 'pannetteria' will open next door in November, selling the restaurant's baked goods, gelato and coffee.
Harden's survey result
Kurt Zdesar – who has been involved with such illustrious names as Nobu, Hakkasan, Chotto Matte and Ping Pong – and Stefano Stecca (most recently executive chef at Toto’s) opened this “spacious” and glamorous-looking Italian newcomer in late-2018 in Marylebone, with a focus on organic ingredients. Early-days feedback was limited, but some “delicious” if pricey food is reported, and the main quibble about the interior is that its moody lighting can leave it “rather dark”.
“Overwhelming design, underwhelming food” seems to be the diagnosis at Kurt Zdesar’s “buzzy and really cool-looking” Marylebone newcomer, whose organic Italian cooking is too often “disappointing” and “average-tasting”.
