Harden's survey result
Summary
“A really classic Italian cafe-pizzeria” – this Vauxhall venture is something of a departure for the gastropub experts behind the vaunted Canton Arms and Anchor & Hope – serving “excellent pizza” (“of the doughy, fluffy variety rather than thin and crispy, but the base is delicious and the range of toppings varies with the seasons”) plus “a bunch of great small plates that some even prefer”. What it has in common with its stablemates is “good value”, “quality produce” and “excellent, friendly service”. It’s also “the kind of place you can easily go to on a regular basis”.
Summary
“An excellent addition to Vauxhall” – this hip, all-day, café/bar was a new departure last year for the team behind Anchor & Hope (who run the nearby Canton Arms, and who have hitherto concentrated purely on gastropubs). It occupies the characterful site that was once Rebato’s (RIP), with coffee and snacks served in the café at the front (the former tapas bar) and a dining room to the rear, majoring in pizza alongside other Mediterranean dishes (and there’s “a great selection of classic cocktails” too). It’s regularly “busy and packed with regulars” and solidly rated all-round, but yet to enjoy the major love inspired by its stablemates.

Summary
On the Stockwell site that was once popular as Rebatos (long RIP): this new venture hails from the same family as the renowned Canton Arms nearby, but in this case – a departure for this gastropub group – the focus is on Italian cooking, with a café (coffee, pastries, pizza) in the space that once was the tapas bar here, and more substantial fare in the rear restaurant. One early report captures it well: “not quite on a par with the other members of the Anchor & Hope stable yet. But the Roman style pizzas are a nice change from the heavier Neapolitans favoured by most. And the cured meats and antipasti are all good. The menu has been cleverly designed, which inevitably leads to raised eyebrows when the final bill arrives. This could become a local institution… but it’s not quite there yet”.
For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
