“What a pub!!” – Charlie Chaplin’s dad was once resident pianist at this substantial mid-Victorian tavern in Vauxhall, restored and modernised five years ago by a group of friends who rescued it from a stint as Zeitgeist, ‘London’s first German gastropub’. These days it serves an elevated menu featuring the likes of Cromer crab crumpet, crayfish and spinach laksa, and Tamworth pork chop. “The atmosphere is always great. Service is always fun. And the food is always delicious! Absolutely love the vegan options (and I’m not vegan!)”.
For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.
