“Several clicks above your average Chinese...” – this “very popular” family-owned chain with sites in Knightsbridge, Mill Hill, Wandsworth Common and Esher – remains a long-running success story. Purists might find the food too “safe” (and the menu “has changed little over the years”). Yet even one critic who has “yet to be convinced by the concept of a posh Chinese” feels “they give it a good go” here, and despite the “pretty punchy prices” most diners feel the experience is “well worth the extra money”.

Fans of this “very popular, consistently above-average” family group – with venues in Knightsbridge, Mill Hill, Wandsworth Common and Esher – say it’s “on another level to most Chinese restaurants”, with “the best cuts of meat and fresh-as-you-like fish and vegetables”. Even fans, though, perennially complain about the prices: “still the best Chinese around, still the most expensive”. These days, a more affordable option might be the delivery/takeaway-only sites in Swiss Cottage, Battersea, Richmond and Wimbledon.

“A huge cut-above a ‘regular’ Chinese!” – this “well-run”, well-established family-run chain in Knightsbridge, Balham and Mill Hill (and Esher) offers an “upmarket” experience that’s “always reliable”: “not cheap but worth it”. “If feels like a bit of a 1990s throwback and I like it for that!”

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
