Harden's survey result
“Reliable, good quality, pricey but satisfying” – such virtues have long attracted fans to these “old favourite”, family-owned Chinese stalwarts in Knightsbridge, Balham and Mill Hill. Viewed from the other side of the coin, they serve “satisfactory but unadventurous fare that seems somewhat overpriced and lacks edginess”.
“A very old friend that continues to please” is how many long-term fans still see these “comfortable” Chinese stalwarts in Balham, Knightsbridge and Mill Hill, where the prix/qualité verdict has traditionally been that they’re “slightly overpriced, but worth it”. Ratings overall remain on the wane however, and – even if harsh critiques are rare – there’s a feeling that they’re “not as good as they used to be”.
“High-quality”, family-owned Chinese venues (in Balham, Knightsbridge and Mill Hill), long known as an “expensive but good” treat. The branch near Harrods especially is seen as “not as good as it once was” though: in particular “the dated decor could use a makeover”.
“A cut above the usual Chinese” – this quality chain is “always reliable” and its two-year-old Balham branch is proving “a marvellous addition to the area”; never a cheap option, some fans now fear they are “in danger of pricing themselves out of the market”.
