Harden's survey result
This “great Jewish restaurant on the fringes of Hoxton” is touted by fans as “hands-down the best place to get deli food in London”. Founders Mark Ogus and Owen Barratt crowdfunded the move to a permanent site after perfecting their ‘Jewish soul food’ classics on a market stall. “The attention to detail is fantastic: the pickles are tiny and piquant, the spicing spot on, the potato latkes shatter crisply”. Top Tip: “perfect soft and fatty salt beef and pastrami”. In summer 2018, having smashed a Crowdcube fundraiser target, they have plans to expand into a national chain starting with another three London sites: the first to be in the new Victoria Market Halls development.
After many years in Bermondsey and a £50k crowdfund, Mark Ogus and Owen Barratt now have a stylish, boothed (if “noisy”) Hoxton diner in which to serve their “great sandwiches and bagels” and other ‘Jewish soul food’.
For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
