“Bustling” and “lovely” French-style bistro, which has been an Islington institution for almost 30 years, with its crowd-pleasing formula of a keen set price for each of the three courses (£4.95, £11.95 and £3.95 respectively): the food’s not art, but with value like this, nobody cares.

“A gem of its type” – this traditional candle-lit Islington bistro “changes surprisingly little over the years” and “you still can’t beat it for value-for-money in North London”. “Portions are generous and having the same price for all starters and mains makes paying as a group so much easier!”

“Terrific value” old, candle-lit bistro that’s a “cheap ’n’ cheerful” and “romantic” Islington classic, and also “handy for the Almeida Theatre opposite”. “I’m not surprised it’s always packed”, but do “request a table downstairs to make the most of the evening”.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
