February 2019: James Cochran will no doubt be pleased that this place has closed (to be replaced by a new Victor Garvey venture, Barullo); the restaurant maintained the right to use his name long after he left the stoves.
Harden's survey result
James Cochran has left his eponymous City venture which retains the right to trade under his name. (He has now re-appeared in Islington, with the opening of 1251, a few doors along from his short lived Upper Street venture). This venue, serving the small plates Cochran developed, recorded some high marks this year. That said, there were also those who, perhaps unsurprisingly, have discerned “a lack of buzz or passion” about the place in recent times and in the circumstances it seems best to leave a re-rating till next year.
