“Escape the feel of the City for very reasonable home cooked-food” in the ancient crypt of Bow Bells church. “There are no better dining establishments in the Square Mile: affordable, great service, good food with delicious daily changing salads” including “excellent veggie and vegan options”. Depending on when you go, it’s either a “quiet” space or quite a “noisy” one.
The thousand-year-old crypt of the Bow Bells church provides a “great location” for breakfast and lunch – “you feel so far from the City”. It has a “short but excellent menu of hot meals and salads” that are “cheap, tasty, and major on the vegetarian”. (Weather permitting, you can eat al fresco in the churchyard here.)
“Shhh, don’t tell anyone”, but this “busy, noisy café in the crypt of St Mary-Le-Bow” (and, weather permitting, al fresco in the churchyard) is “surely one of the City’s best-kept secrets”. The “good food” includes “decent, reasonably priced breakfasts”, “nice salads and hot dishes”.
“Simple, cheap, good-quality” cooking is on the menu at this “delightful” venue – but the trump card is its “setting in the atmospheric crypt of Bow Bells church”. “When busy, conversation can be hard”.

"Very nice cheapo place for lunch - can eat outside by the Church"
"I had twice baked goats cheese soufflé which was served with four different salads (heritage tomatoes with barley, mixed leaves, courgette and green beans and a lentil salad all of which were very tasty and not alike. The soufflé was very light, but coud have had a little more flavour. A very good chocolate brownie with salted caramel sauce followed - a simple, but tasty way to end my meal. As I was on my own, I was tucked away on a table well out of the sight of most of the other diners."
