Hackney oenophiles make a beeline for these this ambitious pair – “I love the wine list!”. The Paradise Row venue, in a railway arch with a large terrace, features an Italian menu, while the Hackney Road wine bar serves snacks and charcuterie. In either case the food avoids criticism, but the liquid refreshment is the main event.
“It’s not about the food” at this “Brooklyn meets Hackney” haunt – “the highlight is definitely the amazing wines by the glass” (“many with real bottle age, without paying the earth”). This said, its cheese toasties (“great smell”) and charcuterie are “well considered and well prepared”.
“The nibbles are fine”, but it’s the “fabulous and intriguing wine selection”, “enthusiastic” staff and “relaxed vibe” which drive the appeal of this Haggerston “jewel”.
