After a successful residency at Counter Culture, Andy Hogben's Alter has moved across town to Leman Locke in Aldgate for another long-term residency. Sensibly, given the difficult times, they are also on Deliveroo.

Within Leman Locke Hotel in Aldgate East, Andy Goodwin’s modern dining room (with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto the nearby offices) aims to ‘challenge the common perceptions of vegan cooking by drawing inspiration from global street food cultures’. Feedback on his interesting meat-free creations remains limited, but very enthusiastic. Top Tip – dip your toe in the water with the £28 early evening menu.

“An ‘alter’ I’m happy to worship at!” – Andy Goodwin brings an innovative approach to plant-based cuisine at this modern hotel dining room, near Aldgate East. To the odd sceptic, it’s too “exhausting and suitable only for hardcore vegans” (“lack of any protein leaves sauces too soupy, and lots of pickles leads to vinegary flavours”), but for fans (the majority) it’s “just incredible… tastes I’ve never experienced before… beautifully presented… a perfect balance of fresh vegetables served with creativity, flair and passion!”
