November 2018: Sebastian and Lana Snow have sold their Cotswold pubs (this one, plus The Plough in Kelmscott and The Bull in Fairford) to Barkby PLC.
Harden's survey result
A “terrific modern boho inn” – this 18th-century village pub excels for its “perfect, good-value food, great ambience, good wines and the really lovely people running the place”. STOP PRESS: Change may be afoot: it was acquired in summer 2018 by a Cardiff-based business called the Barkby Group, with Sebastian Snow – who created the small ‘Turf to Table’ chain of which it was part – departing in October 2018.
Sebastian Snow’s 18th century village pub-with-rooms (following his London haunt Snows on the Green and a stint at the famed Swan at Southrop) is on the up and up, winning very positive ratings across the board this year.
Sebastian Snow’s (anyone remember ‘Snows on the Green’?) village gastropub “just goes from strength to strength”, winning consistent high ratings for its approach and cuisine: “better beers would be the only way to improve it!”
Sebastian Snow's “traditional” village gastroboozer is mostly praised for its “restaurant-quality” cuisine and “charming” staff. There’s a dissatisfied undercurrent of opinion though, who feel “it thinks it’s better than it is”, and who accuse service of “letting it down”.
The Five Alls Restaurant Diner Reviews
"The perfect Sunday roast lunch. Every single component of my dish was delicious, service friendly and super efficient. Gets pretty packed but appears the kitchen is used to that and copes admirably. Worth travelling some way for I’d say!"
"Very enjoyable meal, however my dad couldn't eat his steak as it was too tough, but I think that was just a blip, the rest of the table loved their meals. Well sized, well priced, seasonal produce. Busy for a mid week lunch but this didn't show in the service which was fast and friendly."
