“A real pleasure” – takeover by a chain (Cardiff’s Barkby Group, at the helm as of 2018) hasn’t led to a fall in fortunes for this eighteenth century village boozer; it continues to deliver “very enjoyable”, “well-sized and well-priced” grub (including the “perfect Sunday roast”) that’s “worth travelling some way for” – and, while it “gets pretty packed, it appears the kitchen is used to that and copes admirably”.
A “terrific modern boho inn” – this 18th-century village pub excels for its “perfect, good-value food, great ambience, good wines and the really lovely people running the place”. STOP PRESS: Change may be afoot: it was acquired in summer 2018 by a Cardiff-based business called the Barkby Group, with Sebastian Snow – who created the small ‘Turf to Table’ chain of which it was part – departing in October 2018.
Sebastian Snow’s 18th century village pub-with-rooms (following his London haunt Snows on the Green and a stint at the famed Swan at Southrop) is on the up and up, winning very positive ratings across the board this year.
Sebastian Snow’s (anyone remember ‘Snows on the Green’?) village gastropub “just goes from strength to strength”, winning consistent high ratings for its approach and cuisine: “better beers would be the only way to improve it!”
The Five Alls Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Another faultless Sunday roast lunch. I drive for an hour and fifteen minutes to get here and it is worth it! Whoever is in this kitchen has honed their roast lunch to consistent perfection."
"Exceptional pub food especially traditional Sunday roast which is as good as it gets! Add to that, a lovely happy atmosphere in a deservedly popular venue. Beautiful Cotswold village setting. Great value too!"
