“A splendid addition to the growing Lake District circle of fine restaurants” – the first of the Wildsmith Hotels has a “gorgeous” country setting, but “being south of the main tourist areas makes it more accessible from the major population centres”. With its “beautifully decorated and luxurious bedrooms”, it’s “perfect for a foodies’ romantic break”, and the highlight is the cooking: “clever and heartfelt food, served with care and warmth by Oli Martin and his crew” (from an eleven-course tasting menu, with a vegetarian but not a vegan alternative).
Cooking that’s “clever without being tricksy featuring good, sometimes surprising” combinations wins ongoing acclaim for this “smooth operation” – the Wildsmith Hotels chain’s original property, which has a lovely location in the Lune valley. “The wine list (in common with its sibling Forest Side) is from Buon Vino in Settle, so features lots of biodynamic and some natural wines”.
“I never knew you could get so many different flavours and textures out of a simple Apple. Well done Oli Martin!” The flagship of the Wildsmith Hotels chain has a “sensational position” in the Lune valley and makes “a lovely place to stay and dine”.
This “flagship” of the Wildsmith Hotels boutique hotel chain “maintains very high all-round standards”, including in its “old country-house-style dining hall”, where Oli Martin creates “stunning and very, very clever dishes”.
Hipping Hall Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Serving the fairly trendy multi course no choice style of labour intensive menu, some of which is brought to the table by presumably the chef responsible. Nearly all of the ten or so courses were very good some perhaps a touch too small and perhaps the two main dishes could have been a little bigger to give a centre point to the dinner, but how full do we need to get. We had a package with the wine flight which perhaps we would not repeat. The attractive dining room is an old high, beamed, hall, the night we dined we found after that the head chef was also dining, whether they tried harder because of this or whether he was missed it was still a super evening."
