Harden's survey result
Stone-clad old inn, beautifully situated in the country, and with an attractive garden for the summer months. The dining room provides a “good tasting menu” using a fair amount of home-grown produce.
An “old inn in a beautiful country setting” where “the food (including tasting menus) is clever” and whose “eco-ideals are carried through in a practical way” by “very hands-on owners Richard and Dee Slade” (who grow much of their own produce). “In the summer the garden at the back is one of the most peaceful hangouts anywhere”.
“An eco-friendly inn with everything right” – a pub, hotel and restaurant with “a seasonal à la carte featuring produce from their own market garden, an extensive wine list, and several local cask beers”; “the attention to detail makes it a great pleasure to eat there at any time”. A “superb 8-course tasting menu” is one of the many options (“the semifreddo and carpaccio of beetroot was worth driving miles to sample!”).
Look out for dishes including oak smoked duck, chicken and salmon from nearby Bywell Smokery. Vegetarian choices are always available. Our cooking style is primarily modern British but always add some international choices for those with a more cosmopolitan palate.
During summer we grow many of our own herbs, salads, vegetables and many different fruit varieties within our kitchen garden
We have a range of menus planned around seasonal availability of fresh produce to suit every price and palate, from snacks, sandwiches and fresh salads to full a-la-carte including succulent steaks, seasonal game and vegetables, freshwater fish and tasty seafood.
Our policy is to source the freshest local ingredients wherever possible.
