You “can’t go wrong” at this stalwart off the A12, where a rendered timbered façade gives way to a conservatory and covered patio. For over two decades it has been turning out traditional and consistent cuisine and, as ever, “the Beef Wellington is the pick of the menu”.

This “gorgeous restaurant” has “delivered style and taste” for almost 30 years, and wins high praise for the unerring consistency of its traditional service and cuisine: “never had a bad experience – always look forward to return visits”. Top Menu Tip – “individual beef Wellingtons to die for!”.

“I can always guarantee a special occasion that is fabulous and memorable”, declared a regular who recently celebrated his 60th birthday at this destination of two decades’ standing, just off the A12. Feedback has dwindled in recent times, however, so we’ve left a new rating till the next Diners Poll.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Not really in the mood for eating out but thought a main meal would would raise our spirits. Were made very welcome.Wife decided on the Dover Sole which see had not had before and opted for a gilled fillet without a sauce - not to her taste. I had an excelent fish pie cleverly presented. Good wine list."
