“From the unassuming outside”, there’s little to suggest that this tiny Stockbridge basement is “less of a dive and more of a culinary gem”, but then again it does have pedigree – it’s the second venture from Sam Yorke and Tomás Gormley, of Leith-based elder sibling, Heron. Fast-forward a year and the duo have parted ways; while Yorke continues to lead Heron, Gormley is in charge of this venue, combining a “world-class drinks list” with an “ever-changing small plates menu” that puts punchy ingredients to the fore. (In early 2024, Gormley also launched a debut solo venture, Cardinal, see also.)

For 35 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
