“Either a restaurant with its own farmers’ market or a farmers’ market with a restaurant, depending on your priorities” – either way, “fruit and veg come from within a few miles, while meat and fish are of the highest quality”.

“Located in Canterbury’s permanent farmers’ market, so it’s really buzzing at lunchtimes”, this informal spot has had a strong local following across two decades. “It’s not elaborate food – the ingredients are sourced from the market and left to speak for themselves” – but it’s backed up by a “good-value wine list”. A word of warning for winter: “the food’s good, but you’re sitting in a converted goods shed and boy it’s cold. We kept our coats on for the whole meal”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

I have been to The Goods shed several times...

"I have been to The Goods shed several times but this was the best dining experience I have had at the Goods Shed . On previous occasions it has been disappointing, dishes not inspired & small portions. However on this occasion the the food was tasty , portion sizes good & it was all washed down with some lovely local Kentish wine."
