This “fascinating old pub in a quiet village in rural Leicestershire” is now in its fifth year under “top-notch chef Dom Clarke (ex-Moor Hall) doing his own thing in a small kitchen, which produces unusual combinations of high-quality ingredients, mostly locally grown and supplied”. The “menu is very limited” (3 starters and 3 mains), but that’s “easy to overlook when the dishes are expertly constructed and presented, and rarely disappoint”. “Add to this friendly service and a great atmosphere”.

“Old-fashioned and quirky pub” near Melton Mowbray “run by a charming couple” – chef Dom Clarke (ex-Barn at Moor Hall and Isle of Eriska) and Antonia Nelmes. “The menus are based on what is good and fresh (often local) and are very compact – just three mains and three starters”, and fans say “the cooking is always exciting and a pleasure to eat”. There was the odd reporter, though, who said “it’s hyped up to be amazing, but we were disappointed”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
