Harden's survey result
Summary
Chef-patron Henry Scott offers “two inventive set menus” at his ‘zero waste’ Georgian townhouse (five and seven courses, each also available as vegetarian, plus a simpler lunchtime option) – both of which are by all accounts “delicious”. “The five-course vegetarian ‘Earth’ menu was perfection – every course delightful and each one managed to complement the next”.
Summary
“Consistently excellent food, both set lunch and evening tasting menu” (and including a “lovely veg tasting menu”) confirm that chef Henry Scott is back on top form, after a drop in the ratings post-Covid. A single complaint this year: “chairs could be a bit more comfortable!”. The former Hibiscus chef opened his Georgian townhouse venture in 2016.
Summary
Former Hibiscus chef Henry Scott earned rave reviews when he took over this bare-boards Georgian townhouse in 2016, but ratings took a knock this year. “Perhaps they weren’t fully geared up post-lockdown, but there wasn’t the sharpness that marked previous visits”. However, fans still talk in terms of “the best meal I’ve had for a long time”, and the old magic is certainly there on the right occasion: “arrived on a day when the rain was pouring down. Left feeling so happy. We sent our compliments to the chef as the meal was divine”.
Summary
Following on from Casanis (RIP) was no mean feat but, since taking over this Georgian townhouse venue in 2016, chef Henry Scott (ex-of Claude Bosi’s now defunct Hibiscus) has more than risen to the challenge, and his French-led cuisine is uniformly well-rated. Top Tip – “they do an excellent (weekday) set lunch, not advertised on the website”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
