For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Owner's description

Barrasford Arms pub dates back to the 1800’s. Set overlooking Houghton Castle, this picturesque pub not only serves great local ales, but also top quality local Northumbrian food, using ingredients from the polytunnel and gardens out the back.

With lots to see and do in the area you could make your time away last even longer by staying in one of out seven en-suite bedrooms. A great fishing stream just down the road, Hadrian’s wall only a few miles away, set in the heart of Northumberland only around 20 miles from Kielder Forest and only 8 miles from the historical town of Hexham.

Michael and Victoria recently took over the Barrasford Arms in June 2017 and will make you feel very welcome during your time there. Michael has a wealth of experience as a top chef. From starting out at his local Northumberland pub as a pot wash, to working his way up at restaurants such as Fisherman’s Lodge in Newcastle, and Bouchon in Hexham, before coming the executive head chef at Slaley Hall Hotel, and most recently Malmaison Hotel in Dundee, Michael’s simple, elegant and well cooked food full of flavour will not disappoint.
