Owner's description
The Doi Intanon was first opened in 2000 by Chris and Busara with the aim of bringing an authentic Thai experience to the area.
Very sadly in December 2020 we lost our beautiful Busara Knight to cancer.
Nestled in the heart of the Lake District, our restaurant is set within a charming historic listed building, blending heritage character with the warmth of authentic Thai hospitality. Led by Kaeg & Phian, both chefs with over 30 years of experience - every dish reflects true, home-style Thai cuisine, crafted with care, tradition, and consistency.
It’s a place where rich flavours, family roots, and a welcoming atmosphere come together to create a genuinely memorable dining experience.
Restaurant details
The chef
Kaeg and Phian’s journey began in Thailand, where they met in a workplace that would later become their own—a bustling kitchen within a private school, feeding hundreds of hungry children each day. It was here that their passion, discipline, and love for cooking were truly shaped.
Kaeg, born in Phetchaburi, discovered her love for food through her mother. Although she has sadly passed, her spirit lives on in every dish. She taught Kaeg that cooking is not just about ingredients, but about care, patience, and putting genuine love into every meal.
Phian, born in Isan, brings boldness and depth of flavour to the kitchen, especially through his mastery of vibrant, spicy salads. Raised by a single mother, he learned early on that cooking was more than a skill—it was a way of life, a means to provide, and a foundation for resilience.
Together, their story is one of heritage, hard work, and a shared belief that food should nourish both the body and the soul.
Doi Intanon Restaurant Diner Reviews
"We eat here often and the food is consistently fabulous. Staff are always pleasant. Run by Kim whose parents prepare the food; it’s a restaurant well worth a visit."

For 35 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
