The Ivy, 1-5 West St, London, WC2H 9NQ

Paul Winch-Furness / PhotographerAhead of its restaurant reopening on 1 June, Theatreland fixture The Ivy has launched its new-look private dining room. Diehard fans will be pleased to hear (and see from these images) that the old girl’s trademark harlequin stained-glass windows and dark oak panelling remain.

However there are a few fresh touches. Designed by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, the private dining room has new soft furnishings, a baby grand piano, and the restyled bar now has a collection of contemporary art.

Paul Winch-Furness / PhotographerCaprice Holdings say the space is ideal for networking breakfasts, business lunches, book launches, dinner presentations, and birthday and anniversary celebrations, or even wedding and civil partnership receptions. So pretty much every conceivable event then!

There is space for up to 60 guests, with 32 on one long oval table, or up to 60 guests on six round tables. The whole private room has a capacity of 100 for cocktail and canapé receptions.

Paul Winch-Furness / PhotographerThe Ivy’s refurb’ed restaurant will reopen on 1 June and is already taking reservations. The relaunch comes just in the nick of time – with their usual level of foresight, our reporters called for it to receive “a complete overhaul”! in the 2015 Harden’s survey.

It didn’t used to be this way. You only need to go back a decade to find an era when the Ivy was Londoners’ Favourite Restaurant, with bookings – famously – needing to be made months ahead, even for quieter times of the week. Unless, of course, you were Famous. Perhaps the ‘New’ Ivy will once again seize the ‘Favourite’ crown!
