“Utterly brilliant steaks” and cocktails have helped Huw Gott and Will Beckett’s steak house chain Hawksmoor win cult status in London, and Manchester too. Now the duo have announced plans for a new flagship restaurant in New York’s World Trade Centre. Due to open late-2017.
Always a contender for London’s best steaks and grills in our annual survey – although pipped to the top three this year by the Rib Room, Goodman and Flat Iron – Hawksmoor remains a fave for boozy lunches but some reporters feel prices are increasingly “stupid”.
How will they get on in NYC then? The city already has plenty of expensive, serious steak houses, but we have a feeling that Hawksmoor will fit in rather nicely. The name already carries a certain cachet, even across the Pond and Beckett has said that they will be sourcing beef from US farms. Hawksmoor staples like sharing T-bone steaks and bone-in prime rib will feature.
The flagship restaurant will be Gott and Beckett’s biggest site to date, forming part of Tower 3 which is currently under development in Lower Manhattan. The duo founded Hawksmoor in 2006 and followed it up with their Foxlow brand, which now has four sites in London.
