Harrod’s Georgian restaurant gets a refurb

Harrod’s main restaurant, the venerable Georgian, has had a complete redesign. This “rendezvous of fashion and luxury”, perched on the Knightsbridge institution’s fourth floor, has been serving Afternoon Tea to well-heeled shoppers since 1913.

As of 25 July it will do so in a more contemporary setting, which, we are told, blends classicism and modernism. Designer Christopher Guy has created over 500 bespoke pieces for The Georgian, including carved wood silver-leafed panels reproducing the Harrods façade, and intricate mosaics.

The new look will be complemented by a new menu, although their Champagne Afternoon Tea will remain close to the traditional offering. It includes a glass of Harrods rosé bubbly, dainty sandwiches and savouries, tea pastries, scones served with clotted cream, strawberry jam and homemade lemon curd with fresh strawberries and Pimm’s syrup. Perhaps pass on dinner that night?

High Tea includes smoked haddock and Somerset brie tart, lobster club sandwich, scrambled eggs with spinach and caviar in puff pastry and a Josper roasted steak sandwich.
