It’s “rare to eat Indian cuisine made to such high standards and with an imaginative touch to the food”, but one place you can is this sophisticated Clifton operation (with Bath spin-off); “the decor is stylish and nothing like the traditional look”, while the “fragrant” food is more than a match for it (not least “superb” pies “with all sorts of curried delights under the lid”).

2023 Review: The “food and wine are always interesting” and are “still as good as ever” at engaging Anglo-Scottish chef Gordon Jones’s former sandwich shop on the southern edge of town. There’s “a single tasting menu available” (the only choice is whether to have 7 or 9 courses) and it comes as a complete surprise, with each dish introduced as it arrives at your table (and no vegetarian or other options).

Originally due to open in 2022, now planned for December 2023 in the former PizzaExpress, a Grade 1 listed building.
