“Very authentic and reliable Sichuan cooking” gives this Chinese venture near the Lace Market an added string to its bow, that complements its large menu of more standard Cantonese fare. “The ma po bean curd is very moreish”.

“High-quality and authentic” cuisine has earned regular inclusion in our guide for this Cantonese venue within walking distance of the Lace Market. There is the odd less-wowed report though: “I was expecting something special, but only just rated the food as good. The ambience only just got average…”

“Authentic and very tasty Sichuan cooking” is served “in basic surroundings” at this Lace Market operation, which is reassuringly popular with Chinese (around 80% of the clientele, apparently), as well as students and – better for PR – even the odd Times food critic.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
