Brunch is an institution at this “good stalwart” in Fitzrovia – Adam White’s upbeat all-day operation – and also at its attractive younger siblings in Bloomsbury’s Brunswick Centre and Nova Victoria. The attraction in each case is the “quirky decor” and “fun” style – even fans concede “the food is fine without being outstanding”“nice enough for the price”.

With its mix of grown-up comfort food and fashionable styling, Adam White’s Fitzrovia fixture has long been a key destination for “all-day brunch on Saturdays”, and in recent times has added an attractive new sibling at the brutalist Brunswick Centre in Bloomsbury (there’s also a related ‘Railhouse’ at Nova in Victoria). Top Menu Tip – “kedgeree to die for”.

The “good-looking decor” and “varied menu with an enticing range of small plates, bowls and skewers” bring customers back to this well-established Fitzrovia haunt, now with a popular sibling in Bloomsbury’s modernist Brunswick Centre (“nice place with lots of plants, like a conservatory”). They’re a big hit for “a long lazy brekkie”; at other times the cooking can seem rather “uninspiring”.

“Brilliant brekkie” has always been a star turn at this Fitzrovia haunt, whose attractions are heightened by its stylish setting and “friendly” staff. For more substantial meals, it can seem “competent, but not worth a detour”. It celebrated 10 years in business by opening a sibling in a former branch of Carluccio’s in Spring 2022 (no reports as yet). It’s set within Bloomsbury’s love-it-or-hate-it Brunswick Centre: a fine example of late-1960s modernist (brutalist?) architecture.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
