Summary

“A mildly posh place, really convenient for Hampstead Theatre” – this backstreet stalwart in Swiss Cottage “lacks buzz” but its cooking is “worthwhile” and very “reliable”.

Summary

“Close by Hampstead Theatre” – this Swiss Cottage backstreet fixture is “always full before a show”; for other occasions, it inspires limited feedback, but it’s quite a classy spot in an “area that’s not well-endowed”“fish is particularly reliable”.

Summary

“Very handy for the Hampstead Theatre”, this Swiss Cottage spot perennially wins praise for its “careful cooking”, “well-chosen wine” and “classy” decor; as ever, though, there are also critics who insist it’s “gone off”!

Summary

“Tucked away in a Swiss Cottage backstreet”, this ambitious local is, say fans, “a real gem”; while all reporters agree the pre-(Hampstead)-theatre deals are great, however, sceptics find standards “erratic”.

"We are regular customers, we often eat here before going on to the Hampstead Theatre. The food is usually good and reliable, but on this visit we were disappointed. The gnocchi was heavy, and there was too much of it; the escalope was too greasy. The service was as pleasant as ever and indeed we were given some petit fours with our coffee to compensate for our disappointment."
