Foodie TV regular Simon Rimmer’s Didsbury veteran was doing the plant-based thing way before it was trendy and the “longstanding favourite” is “still great after all these years” (and now boasts a sibling in Sale); the ultimate compliment – “meat-eaters tend to enjoy it too”.

A Didsbury institution for its “creative vegan and vegetarian” cooking for more than 30 years, Simon Rimmer’s “excellent little restaurant” is surfing the wave of plant-based dining, and opened its first spin-off last year, in Stanley Square, Sale, last summer. “Dishes are divine and you’re always spoilt for choice on all courses”, with “lots of seasonal produce”. “Simon is often seen in his chef’s apron and is always happy to say hello – long may that continue!”.

This “delicious vegetarian restaurant from Simon Rimmer” – self-taught TV chef and author – has become a Didsbury institution over three decades, moving with the times as plant-based cooking has developed. Omnivores are quite happy to eat here, finding it “perfect for lunch with vegetarian friends – there’s something for everyone’s taste”.

TV chef Simon Rimmer’s polished stalwart remains the “best vegetarian for miles”, despite the rise of far more competition since he set up in 1990; the “varied menu” spans classics and more “adventurous” fare, and “homely portions” means you won’t leave hungry.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
