Harden's survey result
Summary
“Great food in a beautiful 16th-century Jersey Manor House hotel” is again reported in all feedback on Jersey’s most prestigious property, owned by the Lewis family since 1949. The dining room is traditional in style, in keeping with its decor (which, in one section, boasts wood-panelling from the fifteenth century). “From the time you walk into the bar area for a pre-dinner drink, you are warmly welcomed. Food and service are always first class – there’s wonderful local produce, an excellent wine list and knowledgeable sommelier. Tables are spaced far apart, so it’s ideal for a romantic meal or special occasion”.
Summary
Jersey’s poshest venue – a Relais & Chateaux property – has been owned and run by the Lewis family since 1949. Chef Andrew Baird joined in the early 1990s and oversees the updated traditional cuisine in the dining room, sections of which boast wood-panelling from the 15th century. There’s a wide range of menus, which are sensibly priced given all the luxury and you are not imprisoned by a tasting format as the ‘main event’ is à la carte.
Summary
A “wonderful home-from-home” – Jersey’s poshest, Relais & Châteaux-affiliated hotel (offering yacht charters, a pool, and other mod cons) has long been in the hands of the Lewis family; Andrew Baird oversees the fifteenth-century, wood-paneled dining room, his “classic” fine dining plates drawing on the hotel’s Victorian kitchen garden. Further plaudits for the “amazing sommelier and great wine list” (a reflection of the serious 600-bin cellar on-site).
Summary
“An excellent traditional hotel with a first-class restaurant and extensive wine list” – this well-established Relais & Châteaux property occupies a fourteenth-century major house and has been run by the Lewis family since 1949. Its traditional dining room, The ‘Oak Room’, is presided over by chef Andrew Baird, whose cuisine is complemented by the 600-bin cellar.
For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
