For 25 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. This year diners have submitted over 60,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.
Although the odd reporter again had an “underwhelming” trip to Tom Kitchin’s castle-side dining room, it put in a strong performance this year, with high praise for its “top-notch food, expertly executed” and “excellent service” (“we were totally spoiled!”). A £1m revamp has given the interior a lift too.
“Creative (but not laboratory-style)” cooking “artistically presented” inspires rave reviews from foodie fans of Tom Kitchin’s “unstuffy and friendly” dining room, by the castle. Its ratings slipped noticeably this year however, with quite a few reports suggesting it’s “OK, but vastly over-rated”.
“A favourite with Scots and with tourists”, and no wonder! – Tom Kitchin’s “fantastic” dining room, by the Castle, hardly ever hits even the slightest duff note; the worst any reporter could come up with is that the interior is a touch “unimaginative”.
“A better setting than Kitchin, and more accessible”; by the castle, Tom K’s “wonderful” restaurant it hailed for its often “amazing” cuisine; even in the face of this “excellence all round”, however, there’s the odd hint in reports that prices are getting “silly”.
The Castle Terrace Restaurant Diner Reviews
"This remains an all round hit. Really upmarket without being pretenious or intimidating. Only gripe this time was the 45 minutes between arrival and our first course. The staff seemed more interested in clearing the tables than taking our order; perhaps we were unlucky. The set lunch is super value even with a pricy wine and you can have much more complicated menus as well."
"Very good food; service excellent. Still worth a Michelin star!"
