“A very pleasant experience with beautifully cooked food (perhaps a little less fussy than it was previously) and discreet service that doesn’t miss a trick” – this comfortable Relais & Château property is the epitome of a plush Scottish country retreat, and well rated by all who report on it.

A “beautiful hotel” with “excellent service”, “well-prepared food using delicious local produce” and “staff who can find just what you want”. The menu plays to regional strengths, with highlights including local game – “in particular very good venison”. The only quibble comes from a diner who found the style “a little on the fussy side” (“the food has that slight Relais & Château over-the-topness”).

“With Dundee on the doorstep and the new V&A to visit”, this “perfect” country house hotel benefits from an “exceptional restaurant, service and comfort” too. The cooking, featuring fruit from nearby Blairgowrie and game from resident shooting parties, “shows flair and immaculate presentation”, while hotel manager “Paul, a man of skill and humour, always makes a stay special”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
