“The best we found in this popular holiday resort” – a “lovely, relaxed” local staple from Kelly (FOH) and Scott (chef) Dougal which has “excelled for many years” thanks to its “consummate” service and “original ways with fish”“plus they have their own gin!”. “Reasonable prices” contribute to the fact that “it’s always busy”, but if you can’t get a spot “they offer ‘take home and cook’ too”.

“A wide range of freshly caught fish, inventive dishes and their very own gin” underpin enthusiasm for this “bustling restaurant”. Owners Kelly and Scott Dougal “never rest on their laurels and have constantly sought to improve their menus and service” over the past six years. “The only problem is booking a table – we live 500 yards away and need to book months in advance”. Top Menu Tip – “the crab platter with cockles, prawns, crayfish, smoked salmon and potato salad”.

“A gem in Norfolk”“Kelly and Scott Dougal's restaurant in Wells-next-the-Sea gets better and better”, and “the menu has gone up several notches with a policy of monthly changes to their specials”; locally caught fish is a “notable delight”.

“Fresh seafood platters and a range of imaginative dishes” have earned a good reputation for Kelly & Scott Dougal’s four-year-old venue – enabling them to buy the premises. “Kelly’s a superb front-of-house”“the couple deserve their success because they work hard to serve delicious food and engage personally with their customers”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
