Verden closed its doors in late September 2016. Owners Tom Bell, Ed Wyand, and Tom Fraser are said to be working on a new restaurant, due to open in early 2017.
Harden's survey result
For 25 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. This year diners have submitted over 60,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.
Rave reviews for this modern wine-bar yearling in increasingly gentrified Clapton (once upon a time ‘Murder Mile’). There’s a good selection of “eclectic wines” (“they even have a ‘breakfast wine’!”), served by “knowledgeable staff”, alongside a “limited” menu (that’s “fairly short on cooked dishes”).
A chef of impeccable West End provenance (Scott’s) has gone East, to Clapton, to help establish this new meat-, cheese- and wine-specialist bar; early feedback is euphoric, but too scant to justify a survey rating.
