London’s restaurateurs finally seem to have woken up to the fact that there’s a lot money around London that may not want to come up to town very often

Earlier this year, we saw the opening of Caldesi in Campagna, a Bray spin-off from the long-established Marylebone Tuscan of the same name. Now it is confirmed that, in October, Aubergine SW10 will open an offshoot, at the (unduly) famous Compleat Angler Hotel, in Marlow.

There’s no doubt that Aubergine chef William Drabble is very talented, but – as at other members of the London Fine Dining Group – standards at the Chelsea restaurant have drifted notably in recent times. One can’t help wondering whether the spin-off may not be a bridge too far.

With a three course menu costing £68, the prices certainly don’t allow much scope for error.
