Des McDonald unveils grand plans

More

Former chief executive of Caprice Holdings, Des McDonald, is gearing up for London-wide domination, with plans to expand his two new restaurant concepts across the capital. The Fish & Chip Shop, in Islington, may not be a year old and Q Grill has not even debuted yet, but he already has big plans for his fledgling empire.

McDonald aims to open four more sites in the short term with ambitions for up to 20 restaurants in the future. The Fish & Chip Shop opened in May last year, and the 70-seater diner quickly became a “new stand-out” in the area, attracting praise from survey reporters for its “brilliant” food and “nostalgic” puds. Q Grill, a 150-cover barbecue-themed restaurant, will hold its soft launch in Camden this week, with Phil Eagle (ex-Hix) at the stove.

Two more The Fish & Chip Shops are planned for Shoreditch and Fulham, while Q Grill will open its next sites in Shoreditch and, still to be confirmed, Soho.
