Ducasse does Knightsbridge

Alain Ducasse – a doyen of Gallic cooking, and established as one of the 'untouchables' who does so well from Michelin’s star-circus – is to bring an outpost of his St Tropez establishment, Rivea, to Knightsbridge’s blingy Bulgari hotel in May.

Serving up a mixture of French and Italian dishes, Rivea will take the place of the existing dining room, Il Ristorante, which has never made much of a splash. Unfortunately, neither has Ducasse’s restaurant at the Dorchester (despite its absurd three stars from Michelin), so it must be the Ducasse brand which is the attraction. Or perhaps the hope is that the tyre men, dazzled by the illustrious chef’s name, will obligingly rush round and drop yet another star in the new restaurant’s direction.

Bulgari hotels are a joint production of Marriott and Roman jewellers Bulgari (now part of luxury goods behemoth LVMH.)
