With some 50 restaurant concepts at Westfield, the new west London mega-mall – some established, some wholly new – it’s no great surprise that ‘winners’ and ‘losers’ are already beginning to emerge.

One of the ‘losers’, we’re reliably told, is already so keen to cut its losses that it is prepared to take a hit of £0.75m just to get out. Other operators, though, expect to get their initial investment back in double-quick time.

Success or failure, it is suggested, largely depends on where you are in the complex.
