With its “delightful setting”, “friendly service” and “well-cooked food in good portions” – including “lovely puds” – this cosy pub-with-two-rooms has it all. It’s a family affair, too: chef Ben Handley met his wife and co-owner, Sarah, when they worked together at his parents’ pub in nearby Thornham, while brother Sam is general manager.
“Unusual food combinations” from an “appealing menu with brilliant choices” keep diners happy at this “cosy pub” by a village duck pond. Chef/owner Ben Handley was brought up in a pub at Hunstanton, and has also taken over the Hunworth Bell near Holt.
“Exceptional and high class cuisine, but with a real Norfolk smile… and the booze isn’t bad either!” – that’s the winning formula for this “relaxing and friendly gastropub with a good range of local produce”. “Definitely recommended if you find yourself in north Norfolk!”
This “warm and friendly”, spruced-up, village gastroboozer-with-rooms won acclaim this year for its “really exciting” cuisine – “great local produce”, showcasing “original and surprising” flavour combinations that nonetheless “just work”.
An award winning rustic-smart gastropub, serving the best in local produce and East Anglian ales. Friendly and efficient service perfectly compliment the incredible food served up by chef patron Ben Handley and his team. Norfolk favourites such as Brancaster crab, steaming bowls of Norfolk mussels, locally-smoked salmon with gingerbread are regular highlights; along with Chef Handley’s famous black pudding-scotched quail’s eggs. Sundays' roasts of local pork and Holkham Estate beef are widely regarded as the best along the coast.
With two stylish bedrooms; there is always the option to enjoy a wonderful evening meal and super wines from the varied wine list, before staggering upstairs to unwind under the snuggly duck-down duvets.
Booking is always essential.
