“Fantastic views when you can sit outside” and “a beautiful Cotswolds setting” are the constant at this attractively modernised country pub. In other respects, however, it’s all change here, as in August 2019 long-term owners Tony and Amanda Timmer retired, and chef for the last decade, Kuba Winkowski, moved on in September 2019. It remains to be seen whether new owner, Adam Taylor, will maintain the stunning standards that have made this such a hot destination, hence we’ve left it unrated till next survey.

“Sublime food” in the “breathtaking surroundings” of an “exceptional inn in idyllic Cotswold countryside”. Polish-born Kuba Winkowski, the Craft Guild of Chefs 2018 ‘chef of the year’, wins universal praise for his “wonderful” repertoire of dishes, which includes sturgeon with caviar and fennel. It is, though, “eye-wateringly pricey”“perhaps even more expensive than London, but worth it if you’re feeling flush”.

“Scenes over rolling Cotswolds countryside” help set a “romantic” tone at this “historic pub, cleverly adapted with the addition of a comfortable dining room with country views”“it has it all, with its beautiful surroundings, log fires in winter and summer al fresco”. That goes for its “terrific fine dining” too – “exceptional food, time after time from a very talented brigade” led by Kuba Witkowski. “It’s expensive, but never lets you down”.

“Off the beaten track in an outstandingly beautiful location”, this Cotswolds gastropub is a stunning all-rounder (and you can sit outside when it’s fine). Enjoy “fabulously delicious” food of a kind that’s “occasionally adventurous but never faddish”.
