“Take your sense of humour and embrace the place”, say fans of this “crazy, wonderful” chamber – “a stunning” space on the first floor of a huge Mayfair palazzo. That it’s “shockingly expensive” occasions less outrage nowadays, and when it comes to the tasting menus (overseen by Pierre Gagnaire), while “there may be a few more components in each dish too many” there are “some nice marriages of flavours” and results can be “remarkable”. “It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but the trick is to admire the quality and meticulousness, while not taking the ponciness too seriously.”
“You may feel you’ve taken a sip of something psychedelic!” as you take in the “fabulously camp” decor of this “spectacular” Mayfair dining room, overseen by superstar chef, Pierre Gagnaire. The idiosyncratic cuisine can be “fantastic” too, but the “complicated” combinations can also seem “too clever by half”. Hallucinogens may be advisable on arrival of the bill…
“The magnificence of the space” certainly makes for “an experience” at this barmily opulent Mayfair dining room, overseen by Parisian supremo Pierre Gagnaire; fans – particularly of the “steal” of a set lunch – hail its “amazing” and “innovative” cuisine too, but sceptics say it’s “so over-priced”.
Inspired by Parisian über-chef Pierre Gagnaire, this “crazy” Mayfair dining room offers “experimental” (“weird”) cooking that’s often “incredible”, but which “occasionally fails dramatically”; it’s “way overpriced”, naturally.
Sketch, Lecture Room Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Sadly, the Gourmet Rapide lunch has been guillotined. The full price Sketch offer is as good as ever - and as pricey. Popular with tourists, some of whom look around in disbelief at over the top decor."
"Here we go again. Last year I said it was still hysterically poncey, and I also said that as we all know the score, we shouldn't complain. The set lunch at £35 is good value against anywhere comparable [if such a thing were possible], and is a give-away by Pierre's standards."
