“Exceptional cooking” and “innovative seasonal dishes” win a lot of ardent fans for Mark Owens (ex-Gavroche and Box Tree) and Elizabeth Cottam’s three-year-old, on Leeds’s oldest street, which they hail as a “low-key but high-class addition to the local restaurant scene”. It doesn’t universally impress reporters, however, and there is also a sceptical school of thought that “the food is pretty, but not always big on taste”.

“Exceptional cooking” and “innovative seasonal dishes” win a lot of ardent fans for Mark Owens (ex-Gavroche and Box Tree) and Elizabeth Cottam’s two-year-old, on Leeds’s oldest street, which they hail as a “low-key but high-class addition to the local restaurant scene”. It doesn’t universally impress reporters, however, and there is also a sceptical school of thought that “the food is pretty, but not always big on taste”.

“A brilliant new addition to Leed’s food scene” – Mark Owens and Elizabeth Cottam’s stylishly retro newcomer on Leeds oldest street wins nothing but positive feedback. From a seasonal, British, ten-course tasting menu (you can opt for the standard, vegetarian, or pescatarian version), “the food is imaginatively produced very well cooked and sensibly priced” (with a few reporters mentioning the ‘M’-word) but top billing goes to the “wonderful, well-spaced dining room which is classy and stylish” and has a superb atmosphere.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
