A comfortable stone inn set far from the madding crowds in a picturesque Eden Valley village, handy for the market town of Kirkby Stephen; food is in the safe hands of Scott Fairweather, whose hearty and occasionally inventive cooking makes the most of prime local sourcing (including pheasants from the Helbeck estate down the road).
“In a lovely peaceful location in the out-of-the-way village of Ravenstonedale”, nestled below the Howgills, this Cumbrian spot is a sturdy stone-built old pub with a rambling interior. Chef Scott Fairweather gives every indication of “knowing what he’s doing”, producing tempting, hearty but imaginative fare that’s “excellent, rich and satisfying” (albeit sometimes with “MasterChef tendencies”). Service can be “hit and miss”. Top Menu Tip – imaginative lunch snacks, e.g. venison hot dog.
Limited but highly positive feedback on Scott Fairweather’s cuisine at this comfortable, traditional hotel, which has an attractive position in a Lakeland farming village (plus sizeable garden).
