“Tucked away in a corner of the West End, this top-end venue” is nowadays part of the Hotel du Vin group, but has long been one of the city’s famous culinary destinations, with many top chefs having cut their teeth here in years past. Nowadays formatted in less formal style, this wood-panelled bistro is “full of nooks and crannies to dine in”, and features some “excellent, exemplary cooking”, including a full vegan tasting menu, “and the superb wine list, expertly introduced by the sommelier, is to die for”. But in its new guise, it can be “rather too noisy: perhaps tablecloths might help”.

Despite being one of the City’s most famous culinary names (with past-chefs including Andrew Fairlie and Gordon Ramsay), this comfortable dining room deep in the West End attracts limited survey feedback nowadays, but such as there is remains positive. There is a tasting menu option, but the relatively straightforward cuisine lives up to the ‘Bistro’ designation of the operation nowadays. As you might hope of a Hotel du Vin property “the list is extensive and contains numerous unusual and hard-to-come-by vintages”. Top Tip: affordable prix fixe menu.

The plush dining room of this West End boutique hotel – nowadays part of the Hotel du Vin group – has long been one of the City’s top ‘push-the-boat-out’ destinations.
