“Esher needed a really good restaurant and this is it!” – star Spanish chef José Pizarro took over this “very smart pub” near Esher Common in March 2019, purchasing it from Bibendum’s Claude Bosi, and replaced its menu of pub classics with “wonderful, new Spanish tapas fare”, plus some Hispanified British dishes. For parties of 8 or more, you can order a ‘feast’ of suckling pig or turbot.

Owned by Claude Bosi, this old inn (with rooms) near Esher Common serves a menu bearing little resemblance to Bosi’s creations at Bibendum, but its selection of ‘classic pub and comfort food favourites’ is “always first rate”; “smart” interior too.

“Overlooking the village green”, this year-old pub-with-rooms close to Esher Common wins attention thanks largely to its ownership by star chef Claude Bosi and brother Cedric. Reviews are a little up-and-down but even the least enthusiastic stresses that “the ingredients and cooking are good”.

From restaurateur frères, Claude (Hibiscus, W1) and Cedric (The Charlton Arms, Ludlow) Bosi, a new pub-with-rooms close to Esher Common. The brothers have described the menu (overseen by Claude but delivered by head chef Justin West) as ‘English food from a Frenchman’ – one early report suggests that leads to “an uninspiring menu, but good cooking”.

"It's morphed from a very nice French gastropub into a very nice Spanish tapas bar. But the food is really good, and the prices are perfectly acceptable. Excellent value, But not as nice as it was when it was French!"

"Dropped in for lunch and got a table in the (large) bar area. Very good tapas ranging from melt in the mouth mushroom croquetas to soft yolk black pudding scotch egg. Excellent wine list plenty very good wines by the glass and good cocktails too. The pi thx side area looked very nice for summer evenings"

"Jose Pisarro has taken over this pub from Claude Bosi. However, his attempt to marry tapas with pub classics does not work for me."
