The pub retains many of its original features and serves a menu of traditional, British cuisine using ingredients sourced from local suppliers.
Harden's survey result
“An absolutely stand-out meal in what initially looked like a bland country pub” – Dom Robinson’s CV is a glittering one and his “top-level cuisine” at this cosy pub “in a charming village location” has won it a big culinary reputation. There is a ‘Dégustation’ menu, but – as with the à la carte and menu du jour – the cuisine is very grounded and un-poncy: “I dream about the butternut squash soup, which sounds so ordinary but is SO much more!”
“Who would expect to find top restaurant cuisine in a small, quaint, rural pub?” – Dom Robinson, a former head chef at Tom Aikens, returned from Dubai to imbue this village boozer with plenty of “old world charm”. His “excellent, high-quality cooking” has garnered universally high ratings from our reporters – as well as a coveted star from the French tyre outfit – and it “won’t break the bank”.
The Blackbird Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Really excellent cooking in a quiet country pub: deep flavours, precise execution, short well-designed set menu. It deserves to succeed and I hope the locality will turn out in support. "
"Exciting new place just outside Newbury. Allegedly just earned a Michelin Star. From my first try they are on a par with the very-nearby Woodspeen. Beautifully presented, sophisticated combinations giving great flavours and textures"
