Harden's survey result
Summary
“A real asset to Altrincham”, near the market, serving “authentic pasta dishes” with a Puglian slant (plus wines by the carafe) “in a canteen environment”. (In 2018 they launched a spin-off, in Ancoats, that’s double the size and while “both branches are great, the original just has the edge”.) “Some of the dishes, especially the strozzapreti, are just to die for”.
Summary
“Home-style Italian dishes that are plentiful and utterly delicious” (“they regularly change the menu”) have carved a major name for this small, family-run venture near Altrincham Market, which also benefits from its “chatty and informed served”. “They have not got too big and arrogant – even though they have expanded to two sites now they have kept the quality, and I know as it’s two minutes from my house!”

Summary
“A superb, and authentic variety of perfectly cooked pasta dishes”, using ingredients flown in weekly from Puglia, combined with the “passion” of brothers Michael and Alex Di Martiis have created a major buzz that surrounds this “basic and small” outfit near Altrincham market, which is so busy that you have to book a timed slot at a communal table. A bigger venue opened in Ancoats in summer 2018.
For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Sugo Restaurant Diner Reviews

"excellent. I can't help but compare to cibo...here the calamari was fresh, perfectly balanced with anchovy aoli, fried capers. the arancini was light years ahead of the cardboard one at cibo. great mackerel pasta. I had sausage again - delicious. and my daughter had tomato Ragu. side salad of fennel. there isn't anything where we'd not have licked the plate clean. shame about communal tables in that regard.. they need a bigger restaurant so they can fit more covers in and offer a better range of wines / value? but that is probably picky.. "

"it's a tough call on service as exceptional is high. it was very friendly, efficient and actually we did have the waiter offer to take a wrong beer off the bill and a replacement was offered. unusual, as we hadn't noticed. it is definitely better than most places. was Tuesday 12th. won't save as such! ambiance - busy. buzzing. but tightly packed. I like it, but I can appreciate not all will the starter bruschetta with bean puree, was fabulous. I'd have licked the plate. olive oil fresh and spicy. good garlic and chilli balance. unusually Moreish. I had Tuscan sausage pasta, friends had this and the house sugo. all round we thought it was very well balanced flavours, depth, but subtle enough to have layers. I've not been for a while, so it was great to head back and see them keeping it going.."
